about
This song is a new setting of a well-known and loved prayer of the Báb, who in 1844 in Persia announced the coming of a new religion, the Bahá’í Faith. October 29, 2019 is the 200th anniversary of His birth. I recorded and released this song in honor of the Bicentenary of the Birth of the Báb. The melody and arrangement came to me all at once fully formed one morning during my morning devotions. The arrangement is simple, and my hope is that it will give people ideas for how they can sing the prayer in their own communities: solo, in unison, in harmony, as a round, and with improvisation.
I hope that you will enjoy not only listening to this song, but singing it in your communities.

lyrics
Say: God sufficeth all things above all things, and nothing in the heavens or in the earth but God sufficeth. Verily, He is in Himself the Knower, the Sustainer, the Omnipotent.

I am grateful to the musicians who helped translate my vision for this song into reality: Nickole Best and James Samimi-Farr sang in the chorus and sang the improvised vocals. Alexander Kruszewski sang in the chorus, played piano, assisted with recording, and provided feedback and ideas for the arrangement. Shirin Esmaeili sang in the chorus. James Samimi-Farr played nylon string guitar. Ian Rafalak played lead guitar and bass. Kristen Arant played djembe. Cati Sesana recorded most of the tracks at Inner Ear Studios in Arlington, Virginia. Charlie Pilzer recorded the djembe and mixed and edited the song at Tonal Park studio in Takoma Park, Maryland.
